The duration of continuous power supply provided by an EPS emergency power supply shall be determined on a case-by-case basis. According to the national standard GB 17945-2010, “Fire Emergency Lighting and Evacuation Direction Systems,” when the mains power is interrupted, the EPS emergency power supply must provide continuous power for no less than 90 minutes. This requirement not only ensures adequate emergency lighting during fire-related evacuations but also meets the lighting needs of firefighters during rescue operations.
Now, Xintong will provide a detailed explanation of how long the EPS emergency power supply can maintain power.
Under normal circumstances, the power interruption time for EPS emergency power supplies serving general lighting shall not exceed 5 seconds. For emergency lighting in high-risk and critical work areas, the power interruption time of the EPS emergency power supply shall not exceed 0.25 seconds. The maximum charging time for the EPS emergency power supply shall not exceed 24 hours, and the continuous overcharge current shall not exceed 0.05C (5 A).
According to the “Code for Electrical Design of Civil Buildings GB 51348-2019,” certain fire-fighting equipment has varying requirements for the duration of power supply from EPS emergency power supplies:
The automatic fire alarm system shall have a minimum endurance of 180 (120) minutes.
The fire hydrants, fire pumps, and water curtain pumps shall have a minimum duration of 180 (120) minutes.
The automatic sprinkler system shall have a minimum duration of 60 minutes;
Water spray and foam fire-extinguishing systems shall have a minimum duration of 30 minutes;
The fire suppression and dry powder extinguishing systems shall have a minimum duration of 30 minutes.
Fire and smoke control equipment shall have a fire resistance rating of no less than 90, 60, and 30 minutes, respectively.
The emergency fire broadcast shall have a duration of no less than 90, 60, and 30 minutes, respectively.
The fire service elevator shall have a fire-resistance rating of no less than 180 (120) minutes.
It is thus evident that the duration of continuous power supply provided by EPS emergency power supplies varies depending on the specific fire-fighting equipment. Therefore, when procuring EPS fire-fighting emergency power supplies, it is essential to clearly understand the intended application environment and the relevant regulatory requirements. In addition, regular inspection and maintenance of EPS emergency power supplies are critical measures for ensuring their proper operation and extending their backup power duration.
